It’s fair to say I’ve had a thing about wrap mini skirts ever since I loaned my best mate’s tartan kilt to head to see a punk band in the Cardiff docks back in the day. Admittedly her mum was Scottish so the chances of her having a little tartan number around the house were high, but the one I loaned had an asymmetric slant to it and seemed to peg that burgeoning punk vibe just right.
This season thanks to the onslaught of all things punk seeing a resurgence, the wrap skirts and kilts which we saw as extremely racey and bordering on bondage back in the heady days of our youth, are filtering into stores in fun fabrics and textures.
Take this Kenzo number for example. Pair this with a windowpane blouse from Whistles, a pair of Marc by Marc Jacobs creepers and you’ll have the asymmetric look pegged.
Unusual texture pairing is a key element for Fall, take a peek at this winter white Maiyet wool and shearling-effect wrap skirt. Perfect for embracing the freezing season ahead of us in a ‘White Queen’ regal style.
Try a little rebel-chic with this McQ by Alexander McQueen animal print meets houndstooth skirt. Continue the punk homage by adding a biker jacket and studded boots.
Play with more texture fun with this Helmut Lang ponyhair trim wool skirt. Let the texture do the talking by adding a simple oversize knit, blazer and brogues for a great office appropriate look.
One of my fave designers 3.1 Phillip Lim has this asymmetric quilted biker wrap skirt for fall. I nearly invested in his gorgeous quilted neoprene winter coats but body swerved at the check out – this is a much more price friendly way of buying into the look.
