Woven Accessories to snap up for Spring.

I know it’s flipping pouring outside and spring has far from sprung in Blighty, but the fashion world marches on no matter the weather, so new spring trends are landing in store right now even as we continue to splosh through puddles on the school run. One of the most fun trends heading our way is woven accessories. Think all things basket weave, lattice work and raffia ruling the roost and I for one am ready for a little seasonal quirky fun in my closet… who’s with me?

The woven accessories trend bubbled around a little last season in the late summer but has come back with a boom for SS18. There are all sorts of artisanal weave looks out there on anything from shoes to bags and also belts, all of which whisper lazy summer days strolling through exotic markets or long warm evenings watching sunsets at the beach. Pair yours with crisp cotton by day or loungey linen palazzo pants by night for the perfect vacation on-trend accessory.

For shoes look for sling-backs and mules with pointy toes, some of which evoke the simple lines of a Moroccan babouche slipper. They come in anything from leather to organic raffia and rope as well as synthetic fabrics. The ones I’ve road tested have tended to come up small so it might be worth sizing up, but definitely try before you buy as squishing your trotters into a clingy woven shoe is no fun. There are also slingback booties around (Topshop) which are a fab transitional piece if you aren’t quite ready to give up your winter warm booties in this weather yet.

For bags look for leather woven totes or raffia and straw baskets. You can also find grass woven cuties from Sophie Anderson who’s current collection has been hand-woven by the WAYUU people of Colombia which means that each one is unique. For our earlier summer basket edit, take a peek here.
