Which party dress to choose this season.
It’s well and truly the midst of the festive party season and the invites are coming in thick and fast. But what to wear and more to the point how can you nail sartorial elegance with your party dress each time? Should you work a full on embellished number even though you’d rather just throw on a pant suit. Can you pull off sequins or is a classic LBD more your thing? The key to figuring out what to wear often revolves around your style ID and what you feel comfortable in. You may be more boho babe than street stylista, but until you’ve nailed the nuances of your style, it’s easy to make a fashion faux pas which puts a downer on your party night vibe. So we’ve picked out a few party dress ideas which will work for your particular style.
Needle & Thread Embellished dress, Aquazzura heels, Chloe Drew bag.

Glam Girl
The Glam Girl is in her element when Christmas comes around. There’s all manner of sequins and delicate adornments floating around as well as tonnes of silks, chiffons and tulle to keep her romantical leanings satisfied. I’m a fan of Needle & Thread (you can read about their new collection here) who’s dresses always give good festive party wear and are perfect for those who love a little ditsy embellishment.
Boho Babe
Our Boho Babes can find their party dress nirvana in labels like Erdem, Anna Sui and Rachel Zoe if you want to splash the cash or for a slightly more purse friendly option check out Anthropologie’s cocktail dress collection which is pretty on point this season too. You would love the ruffle looks which are all over the place this season as well as anything velvet. There’s also a pile of strong patterns out there both floral and patchwork which might catch your eye.
Street Stylista
The Street Stylistas amongst us will be happy in anything with a little edge. Think Emilia Wickstead, Roksanda, Tibi and Self-Portrait. Look for on trend detailing like oversized sleeves, ruffles, asymmetric lines and slip dresses over roll necks to demonstrate how ahead of the fash pack you are.
Drama Diva
The Drama Diva will be in her element this Christmas. Whether she opts to play up the dazzle factor with sequins and metallics, or road tests some statement feathers and tulle for a jaw-dropping entrance, this is the perfect season for her.
Chic Chick
There’s always a classic dress or two out there for the festive season so our Chic Chick can rest easy. Check out elegant offerings from DVF, J.Crew and Donna Karan, which will keep you in your comfort zone. Think lace, fit and flare or slip dresses to be on trend. Or for something a little more daring why not consider a jumpsuit which has pared back chic written all over it.
If a party dress is still not your thing, check out this recent post about alternatives to the LBD this season.
I also popped this post on a linkshare post with lovely Catherine Summers of Not Dressed as Lamb… check out some of the other lovely posts in the link up here.
