Afternoon Tea at Fortnum & Mason
Last weekend we headed up to London to attend an afternoon tea at Fortnum & Mason for our daughter MIllie’s birthday. She had invited a few friends to make up a table, whilst we hosted Granny on another table for her 86th birthday treat. I’ve been to a few afternoon teas (check out the last Fashionista Tea I attended at The Berkeley) and also hosted a vintage tea party for Millie last year for her sweet 16 which you can catch up on here. But I’d never actually crossed the threshold of Fortnum & Mason so was pretty excited to scope it all out.
The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon is the place to head to if you’re serious about your traditional afternoon tea. With a pianist tinkling the ivories as we arrived, we were led into the light and bright tea salon which was already abuzz with plenty of other like-minded people. We opted for a mix of sweet and savoury afternoon teas with oodles of tea blends to choose from. With super attentive staff, all the delicacies were explained and one of our party who was gluten free was easily catered for.
For those who aren’t the cup-of-char types, there’s always hot chocolate or a glass of bubbly on hand…
Millie wears shift dress by Abercrombie, Sophie wears off the shoulder top by Zara.
Service was brisk and efficient and before long what seemed like teeny tiny bits of food seemed to be filling us right up to the brim.
Fortnum & Mason is a great place to celebrate a birthday whether you’re young or old. On the day we were there they were celebrating 40 birthdays – phew! That’s a lot of renditions of Happy Birthday for the staff to get through…
Fortnum & Mason in Piccadilly is open Monday to Saturday 10am – 9pm, Sunday 11.30am – 6pm. We had tea in The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon.
